The portion in Salt Lake County belongs to Salt Lake City, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. The other portion in Utah County is a part of the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Area. The City of Draper is home to the main customer service centre for eBay, Utah's first Ikea, the headquarters of 1-800 Contacts, the tech call center of PGP Corporation, and the call centre of Musician's Friend. In addition, the city is home to one of the world's best hang-gliding spots due to the winds on Traverse Ridge.

History of Draper, Utah

The Draper area (back then known as South Willow Creek) was first settled in the fall of 1849 by Ebenezer Brown and his family. By the end of 1852 the South Willow Creek region was home to 25 families. Two years later, the town's first post office was established. The town's name was then changed to Draperville in honor of William Draper III. However, in 1854 Ebenezer donated some land due to trouble with the Natives. From 1990-2000 Draper became Utah's fastest growing city.

As of 2000, it was determined that the City of Draper held about 25,220 people, 6,305 households, and 5,428 families. The racial demographics of the city was 91.25% White, 1.52% African-American, 0.75% Native American, 1.30% Asian, 0.36% Pacific Islander, 2.71% from other races, and 2.10% from two or more races. 5.82% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race. The median income for a household then was $72,341, and the median income for a family was $76,858. The city's per capita income then was $22,747.
